Organizers of a new 5K run and family fun day say they were thrilled by the turnout to Bark-N-the Park, which was organized to benefit the Walker County Animal Shelter.

Two local girls will be thankful for area runners this Thursday when they gather for the Cure JM Turkey Day Run/Walk. Jasper Track Club president Brad Baugh said the Cure JM Foundation was chosen as the beneficiary of this year's Thanksgiving 5K in honor of Brylee Smith and Destiny Atkins, who have a rare autoimmunie disease called juvenile myositis.
